In the women's rugby semifinal, Team USA is defeated by New Zealand.

In the women's rugby semifinals at the Olympic Games in Paris, New Zealand proved to be too strong for Team USA.

Tuesday's match at the Stade de France saw the reigning gold medalists upset the United States 24–12.

After a score by American Alev Kelter in the first few minutes, New Zealand seized the lead with a try and conversion a little while later.

The Black Ferns dominate the second half, as they do throughout the Olympic competition. With three minutes remaining in the game, Michaela Blyde added a try and Stacey Waaka scored another, giving New Zealand a 19-5 lead.

In Paris, New Zealand has ruled supremely. Up to Kristi Kirshe's try on the final play of Tuesday's semifinal, it had lost none of its first four games by more than 26 points and had not given up more than seven points in a single game.

In the bronze medal game, the United States will now take on the loser of the Canada-Australia semifinal at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.
